An Invitation from the CSS Students

What are you looking for in your college education?

If you came to Wesleyan to:

  1. participate in small classes,
  2. enjoy close interaction with other students and with faculty,
  3. develop your writing skills, and
  4. learn how to think critically,

Then you should consider the CSS

  • Our tutorials have no more than 10 students and our colloquia have no more than 30 students.
  • During the sophomore year, students write weekly, ungraded papers, which receive extensive comments from a tutor.
  • Our program emphasizes independent work on the part of the students and promotes the development of original, critical perspectives.
  • Students play an active role in all aspects of the CSS major, including participating in the admissions process, and organizing social events.
  • The structure of the program facilitates close interactions among students and between students and faculty. Students work with faculty on an individual or small group basis over the three years in the program.
  • Our formal social activities, often combined with lectures of seminar discussions, include Monday Lunches every week, with a variety of speakers, Fall and Spring Banquets, Friday Social Hours, a winter Holiday Party, and a Spring Picnic. What's best, faculty participate regularly in the social activities of the College.
  • Approximately half of CSS students study abroad -- all over the world -- in fall of junior year.
  • CSS students participate actively in the Wesleyan community: CSSers have been on the SJB, the WSA, the Honors Board, ResLife, ITS, and in community service programs.  CSS'ers write for the Hermes, The Wesleyan Argus, sing in the Spirits, participate in sports, play in the orchestra, choreograph dances, and DJ at WESU.
